An urban farming project, 2022
Farm Storey is an initiative to bring sustainable and simplified hydroponic farm solutions to homeowners and urban farmers. With this we strive to empower them to grow healthy food easily and abundantly and cut out the toxicity of harmful chemicals.
Our vision is to empower the lives of the urban communities through sustainable, affordable and innovative farming solutions.
The idea to build Farm Storey emerged with the personal struggle of having seen vegetables being irrigated with sewage water in the outskirts of Delhi, India and the pain of not being able to successfully grow vegetable in the limited space at home.
We chose bamboo as the core material for building this as the aim was to create low-cost sustainable hydroponic farming solutions for homeowners and urban farmers to make hydroponics a much easier to adopt practice for all. Moreover, bamboo resonates with vertical farming, being tall, flexible and adaptable.

To create a simplified hydroponic system with bamboo we wanted to create something that was both easy to manufacture and easy to transport. Hence, with the help of local artisans we designed a system out of basketry method that involves bamboo weaving. It made the structure light, stackable and versatile for making vertical addition any time.
Another system that we developed is a small portable 2 plant hydroponic system out of bamboo that works somewhat on the principle of Kratky’s method. This system allows users to just grow their plant in the bamboo pole filled with nutrient rich water. Without the need of any water circulating system, it is the simplest form of hydroponics that is a perfect beginner friendly and kid friendly setup.
And lastly, we developed a traditional vertically stackable NFT channel out of bamboo that can be easily flat-packed and assembled. Being built in bamboo the system allows for greater moisture retention and also helps in keeping the water temperature low, creating an ideal environment for plants to grow.
